Kristen (see her super dooper photography work here) emailed on the Thursday, asking if i would be able to do a pregnancy shoot for her and her husband, but that it needed to be done on the Thursday or Friday, since they are leaving for Holland again the Sunday. It happened that the shoot i had the Friday got postponed so I was able to meet them in Camps Bay for their shoot! Kristen is from Canada, David from USA and they live in Holland. I guess it did not really come as a surprise when she told me that she met David while traveling. It was awesome spending the afternoon with these two (and a half.) Kristen’s awesome outfit did so much for the shoot and I loved shooting in Camps Bay, since I have never done a shoot there before. Kristen and David, enjoy the photos and please keep me up to date with the name for your baby! Blessings!

(Oh, and before I forget! It was so weird! I have never met them before, they were only still in SA 2 days after the shoot, I have never been in Riebeek Wes before, but where would i run into kristen and David on Saturday just before i start shooting a wedding? In Riebeek Wes! CrAzY! Maybe I run into you again next year, hopefully at the WPPI where we both so desperately want to go!)

As ek terugdink aan Munnik en Michéle se troue onthou ek die eenvoud van liefde vir mekaar. Hulle is so gentle, maar tog passievol, dis sommer lekker om in hulle geselskap te wees.

Michéle het nog altyd lang hare gehad en Munnik het al laat val dat hy van kort hare hou. Net voor die troue knip Michéle toe haar hare vir hom af! Dis nogal daring, maar Munnik is MAL daaroor en se hy weet dis was ‘n act of love.

Die eerste dag wat ek vir Carla ontmoet om bietjie oor die troue gesels het ons seker ‘n hele uur van die “topic” afgedwaal. Ons het besef ek was al op hulle plaas se super dooper gastehuis, ons het gesels oor die “Carla en Neethling storie” en ek weet nie wat als nie.

Die detail was ongelooflik-ongelooflik by die troue, maar… hulle storie en waarheen hulle oppad is met hulle huwelik oortref dit nog by verre!

Ek gaan nou nie baie stories praat nie, want ek weet soos ek hier tik, sit Carla-hulle en fam op die nippertjie van hulle stoele en wag vir die post, so here goes!!!!

As ek terugdink aan Abri en Liesl se troue, is daar een ding wat verseker uitstaan: Hulle is MAL oor mekaar en hulle deel verseker ‘n “persoonlike spasie.” Mense dink hulle gaan “0p-gesoen” raak, maar die twee verseker almal dit kom nou al maande aan en die bron is nog ver van uitgeput.

Hulle het in die mooie Moedergemeente van Stellenbosch getrou aan die einde van Kerkstraat. Dit was net so ‘n mooi dag dat ek al die ander spots waarheen ek wou gaan in my kop se archive  gestoor het en 90% van hul foto’s is in 100m vanaf die kerk geneem het! Dit was so lekker om die fun wat hulle gehad het met hulle te deel! Geniet die resultate!

I was one of those people that did not know that human trafficking exists. Or maybe I just did not want it to exist.

Human trafficking/Sex slaves/People being sold in South Africa? Hmmm.  Then I thought, ok maybe, but not that often. And not in SA at least, maybe in other countries, yes.

Marionette van Deventer from Stop Trafficking of People asked me to take some behind the scene shots for their “2010 Human Traffic Campaign“. Their organisation was started at the beginning of 2009 by Corinne Sandenbergh and the aim of the campaign is to make people aware of what Human Trafficking is and also to give them practical ways in which they can get involved.

I loved shooting people like Shado Twala, Antoinette Kellerman, Thuli Zuma and the 2 girls from Freshly Ground, but I was SHOCKED by the statistics on Human Trafficking in SA, specifically in connection with the Soccer World Cup 2010. Please do yourself a favour by following this link. Quentin Krog and Floyed de Vaal, the crazy cool creative guys from Firestorm Production put together two videos that is both entertaining and freakishly informative.  It’s definitely worth the watch…and to Tweet…and Facebook…and to send to your mother…and friend…and the rest of the world!!!!

And if possible, act on it. To be shocked alone has never helped anyone.

Hold on people, hierdie gaan ‘n lang post wees. En ek dink julle kake kan dalk moeg gesmile wees hierna.

Ek neem aan meeste mense weet teen die tyd al dat ek mal oor “moments” is. Nou Kappie en Nikki is soos een groot en lang moment! Ek het soveel foto’s geneem, net omdat hulle so spontaan, vrolik, borrelend en sommer pleinweg awesome is.

Toe Nikki my vra om hulle af te neem was ek instantly opgewonde. Ek kyk op na Nikki se werk en eks lief vir haar as my vriendin. Ons het min of meer saam-saam begin met die foto-ding en het al ure om gesit en gesels oor die groeipyne, lekkertes, uitdagings en tegnieke van fotografie. Ek leer so baie by haar. As jy nog moet trou, doen jouself ‘n guns en gaan kyk na haar werk!!! (En as jy al getroud is.)

Vir Kappie het ek leer ken met ‘n opregte smile wat altyd op sy gesig is. Hy ken altyd iemand, waar ‘n mens ookal gaan. Van die 2de keer wat jy hom sien, groet hy jou of jy al jare lank sy mater is.

Saam-saam is Kappie en Nikki net so…dinamies! Hulle is soos plofstof. Ek dink wat ek die meeste love van hulle, is hulle positiewiteit wat hulle uitstraal. ‘n Mens voel sommer of alles ok gaan wees.

Nikker en Kapper, julle liefde vir God wat oorvloei in ‘n liefde vir mekaar gaan nog menigde mense se lewens raak.

Miskien omdat ek self van die platteland af kom, of miskien omdat dit anders is, maar ek is gaande daaroor om troues in klein dorpies af te neem. Juan en Elsje het besluit om in die mooie Bredasdorp te troue. Dis rustig, dis anders, dis mooi, dit was stylvol, daar was spasie!

It was a super hot day. Really. I wanted to jump into any water I could see. When I got to the SW 1 guesthouse in Someset West where Leigh got dressed, I was super happy to feel aircon in the room!

Leigh totally surprised me by how relaxed she was in front of the camera. The combinations of her doing her thing and the beautiful interiors and lighting of the guesthouse made my life so easy! The wedding itself was held outside and the preacher kept it short, because of the heat. By the time we took Leigh and Ross’s couple photo’s, the worst heat was over and I felt like I could run around again as normal, doing my “photographers dance” as the books call it.

Thanks Ross and Leigh for being game for everything, does not matter how hot it was!!! Enjoy the pics!

Ek het die Donderdagaand in Johannesburg geland en ek moet se, dit is nogal eienaardig om so op die lughawe te land en jy weet nie eers hoe die bruid en bruidegom lyk wat jy die volgende dag afneem nie.

Ek het gewag vir my tassies en Henrike se vriendin wat my kom optel het, het vir my ‘n gerusstellende sms gestuur om te se hulle wag vir my en sy het spesiaal ‘n pienk hemp aangetrek sodat ek haar dadelik kan herken. Daarna het hulle my gaan aflaai waar ek vir die aand sou oorslaap. Ek het lanklaas sulke gasvryheid beleef! (Laas in Soedan dink ek…en my ouers natuurlik!)

Dit was laat, maar daar is vir my gewag, my kamer gestock met toebroodjies sonder korsies, ‘n houer met yskoue water, die heerlikste druiwe, sjokolade balletjies en alles wat ek verder aan kon dink wat ek moontlik kon nodig he.

Die volgende dag het ek vir Henrike ontmoet en dit was weird, maar dit het gevoel of ek haar al lank moes ken. Johannesburg het my heeltemal van my voete af geklits. Johannesburg en Pretioria is ‘n blur vir my. Ja, ek is ‘n regte egte kapenaar en hier verras dit my so.

By die troue self is daar soveel maal gevra of ek alles het wat ek nodig het, of ek al geeet het, of ek baie hard werk ens ens.

Eintlik wil ek net se, iets wat nogal scary kan uitdraai was ‘n fees. Dis vir my snaaks dat ek nie sommer net ‘n kuiertjie sal kan reel as Andre en Henrike se foto’s afgehandel is en hulle dit kan kom kry nie. DHL sal maar die ding moet doen. Dankie André en Henrike dat ek julle dag kon deel en dat julle gasvryheid my voete onder my uitgeslaan het. Julle het warm harte en dit straal as deel van julle menswees uit. Blessings vir julle huwelik, saam met God gaan julle nog soveel adventures he wat ander se lewens gaan aanraak.

As julle wou foto’s sien, is hierdie net vir vandag nie die plek nie. Ek is net so dankbaar dat dit wil oorloop, nou loop dit maar in die blog oor! Daar leef soveel in my hart, maar ek wil net ‘n paar punte met julle deel:

Ek het van vandag af vir die eerste keer ‘n kantoor!!!!!!! My eie een! Ene met 2 nuwe kantoorstoele. Ek droom al so lankal van dit.

Gister het ek die skottelgoed so gekyk, my werk so gekyk en besluit ek gaan vir my ‘n “LG Saartjie” koop. Saartjie staan nou in haar hoekie in die kombuis en ek gaan haar nog baie dankie se. Sy het amptelik al een keer gewerk. Sy is pragtig!

Maré is van vandag weer terug by die werk!!! Sy is my regterhand en werk twee dae ‘n week vir my. Sy was nou vir 3 weke op vakansie en ek is so bly sy is terug! Die jaar het groot dinge vir haar in stoor en ek is opgewonde daaroor!

God werk in my hart. Selfs die deeltjies wat ek nie van geweet het nie.

Ek het cool maatjies.

My ma-hulle (uit die Karoo,) asook my broers en skoonsuster kom more aand by my eet.

Ek woon in die 3de mooiste plek in die hele wereld. (Die ander 2 plekke is ook in Suid Afrika though.)

Ek is gesond.

Dis my werk om foto’s te neem.

My hartjie klop, my oe blink en ek sien uit na die jaar. (En nee, ek is nie verlief nie! Dit kom nog. Wanneer die tyd reg is.)

Soms wens ek, ek was ‘n skrywer sowel as ‘n fotograaf. Dit voel nie of enige van my woorde genoeg sal wees om hierdie dag te beskryf nie. (Mag die foto’s daarvoor opmaak!!!) As ek sou probeer, sou ek woorde soos fabelagtig, lag-oorvloed en vreugde moes gebruik. Rayno en Liana word geken as die couple wat altyd lag. Ek het hulle ook so leer ken. En hulle harte klop vir Jesus. (nie tjoklits nie, heheee.)

I did not even realize that Ingrid and Aage’s wedding post was no. 100 and even though my blog is still in diapers, I really enjoy having one!

Thanks to all my really cool clients. I know I have mentioned this a while back, but really, I do have the nicest clients ever. Thanks, you add so much to the joy of my work!

That brings me to my next point. A while ago Konfetti online magazine contacted me to ask for a photo of myself, because I have been nominated as Photography service provider of 2009. This came as a surprise! Just after that Libre, one of my awesome brides, mailed me to tell me that she nominated me. Thanks Libre, it was only a pleasure working with you and Pieter. Two days ago, Ingrid congratulated me for winning the category. I am pretty overwhelmed by it, but very grateful. This motivates me even more to give the best possible service I can!
