It was such a treat photographing Jolandi, Pieter and little Nina. Jolandi and I went to the same preprimary school in Caledon and I still remember one specific day that we were hiding little “treasures” everywhere. Our treasures were mostly stones and leaves, but we decided that years later we would go back and find it again. I think the memory of that fun day is the treasure now…and seeing Jolandi and Pieter with little Nina is the jackpot. She is beautiful and even though she was sooo tired during the first part of the shoot, she was still so cute and friendly!

Ross and Magriet is such a blessing. If you’ve met them, you want to know them better. They genuinely cares about the people around them and they certainly has had an impact on my life. Ross is a paster at Shofar Christian Church (Tygerberg) and Magriet is a doctor. But ultimately, they are just 2 people who really love God, making a difference in this world.

Every family has a flavour….and i like the flavour of this one! It’s incredible how gentle and with how much respect Golo and Ina talk to their children. Since this family is from Sweden, we planned a beach shoot for them. What we did not plan was HECTIC wind. When i got there i though i would have to look for another spot very quickly, but when the family arrived, they acted like this wind was 100% normal and great conditions to do the famiy shoot in. There were also tons of fish in the bay, which was a magnet to fishermen, seabirds and loads of seals. In the end of the day, the wind really did add his flavour too. Wind + the Schmidt family = grrrreat combo! Also, soon you will get to see the pictures on my blog of their intimate wedding a couple of weeks after this shoot!

It is my absolute favourite thing to build a relationship with whoever I photograph. This family i did not specifically meet through our first shoot, but our friendship certainly has grown through it!
It does not matter that the children did not really feel like the shoot the specific day. This family just always make me see a glimpse of what “family” means. Mom cannot stop talking good things about dad. Dad loves spending time with his loved family members. Together the parents do their best to raise their children in a godly way, so that they too will one day choose to have a living relationship with Jesus. The dog barks and mom will never be able to clean up or pack away everything fast enough to be one ahead of everything that is happening at once. When i look at it, I can see so much love…so much chaos…and so much character being build, all at the same time. Lovit!!!! Enjoy Hugo and Theresa. I love you as a family to bits.

Rudi and Karen are close friends of my brother and Im sure many of you have met them, since they are the owners of the absolutely awesome KolKol accommodation and Restaurant in the mountains of Botriver. (Really, do yourself a favour and have a look at what they offer.)
They are the most welcoming couple and it’s always a joy being around them. So…needless to say, i had such a good time photographing them and their “soon to be here” son, Ruan.
If you maybe wonder about “ertjie” in the title. Before anyone knew that Karen was pregnant, my brother was organizing his 30th birthday. Karen replied, saying that Rudi and herself….and Ertjiepit (little pea-pod) will be there. What she didn’t realise, was that she “replied to all.” Since they have many mutual friends, the secret was out!

Ek het n middag saam met Irise, Joseph en hulle 3 dogters spandeer. Irise was saam met my op skool in Caledon en ek kan skaars glo dat hulle al ‘n gesin van 5 is! Vandag toe ek vir haar vra hoe dit gaan met die familie, se sy hulle hou haar besig maar sy sal hulle vir niks in die wereld verruil nie.
Wow.
Dit was so ‘n kontras tuseen die rustige, slaperige, pas gebore tweeling (Sophia en Marybeth) en die woelige, lewenslustige Annabell. Maar wat ‘n fees!

1 baby = adorable
2 babies = 3x as adorable!!!
Matthew and Maxine are probably the babies with the biggest smiles that i have ever met! Their laughs are extremely contagious and I can just see them in a few years, having the time of their lives with their friends and family, laughing all the way. (And doing a bit of kattekwaad of course!)
Thanks so much to Charles, Carolyn and the twins’ day-mother for all the help to make them smile and keep their attention! It was so much fun!!!!

I loved the amazing available light in Jena & Charl’s house! Then i saw little Alex and he was just so extremely cute! Then, to add to it, there was a little Jack Russel running around. I had so much fun with this family! They all live so far apart so they used the opportunity to get some photos taken, while they were all together on holiday. It was EXTREMELY cold but they were great actors, making as if we always have awesome weather in Cape Town!

Stiaan en Zanelle is so opgewonde oor hulle eerste babatjie wat oppad is! Hierdie laat middag het gevlieg terwyl ons geneem het! Sommer in die huis, net buite die huis, af in die pad, in die veldjie en op met die berg. Dit was so lekker om die 2 bietjie te leer ken en ek kan net dink dat goeie tye as ‘n familie vir hulle voorle. Blessings Zanelle en Stiaan en geniet die foto’s!

Ek kon nie glo hoe groot hulle geword het nie!!! Onthou julle hulle nog? Die oulike tweeling het soveel gegroei en soveel persoonlikheid “by gekry,” dit bly vir my daaglikse wonderwerkiesl! Hierdie keer kon ons nie heeltemal doen soos ons wou nie en die foto’s is so tussen deur hulle speel-eet-en-slaap geneem.
Dis vir my ‘n absolute voorreg om die groei in hulle lewens, persoonlikhede en verhoudinge te sien en vas te vang!!! Gaan kyk gerus die eerste fotos HIER.
‘n Paar interessante feite oor die 2:
-met die vorige shoot was hulle ‘n maand oud en hul newborn klere was heeltemal te groot
-hier is hulle 7.5 maande en hulle dra 12-18mde klere.
-Michau weeg 10.5kg en Danny weeg 10.9kg.

Even before I had my website, Stefan and Marlene believed in my work enough, to book me for their wedding. It was one of my first weddings after going solo and it was nerve wrecking, but the same time so much fun. (Click HERE to view their photos.) I still feel so privileged for people like them . Thank you Stefan and Marlene!!!! It’s awesome that you are a family now and Lua sure is a little star!!!!
A mail from Marlene a while ago, just so that you too can get to know them a bit better:
“Lua is nou amper al 6 en n halwe maande! (ons is baie lucky – sy slaap al deur van 9 weke af!) Dit voel soos noudie dag wat ons uitgevind het ons is swanger – en hier sit sy al, en eet regte menskos ens ens… SYs regtig so n blessing – sy het ons hele lewe verander – sy maak dat ek regtig die hele wereld wil “fix” en dat ek n meer gelowige mens is as wat ek ooit was! Ek dink ek was regtig gebore om n ma te wees – en Stefan is die beste pa wat ek ooit vir haar kon wou he! Hys regtig soos n bodyguard as dit by haar kom – wil haar net teen die wereld beskerm!”

Sjoe! Al weer ‘n heeeeeeerlike middag! Tertius en Annél is al teen die tyd ‘n mamma en pappa en is soooo nuuskierig om te sien hoe die kleinding lyk! Net jammer hulle woon nie in die Kaap nie! Annél moes afkom vir werk en toe maak hulle dit sommer ‘n mini-vakansie so voor hulle oornag in ‘n gesin verander het.

Miskien moet ek net vrede maak dat families my bless. Ek is mal oor verhoudinge en die manier waarop ‘n familie werk fascinate my net! Die Loubser gesin is familie van my goeie vriendin en soms assistant, Mariette. Sy het my al so baie van die fam vertel en hoe lief sy hulle het, ek kon nie anders as om opgewonde te wees oor die shoot nie. Daar gekom, was ek nie vir een oomblik terleugestel nie. Om dit op te som, na die shoot het ons almal om die kaggel in die sitkamer gesit, met boeretroos en vars beskuit. Wow. Weereens ‘n HUGE voorreg om so in mense se spasie toegelaat te word. Net nog ‘n lekkerte van my werk. Geniet dit julle!

Ek kon deur die mooie Overberg ry en my hart was sommer weer ekstra kalm. Dis ‘n mooi tyd van die jaar vir die streek en tussen my en Liesel het ons al so baie eposse gestuur dit het gevoel ek moes haar al ken teen die tyd. Daar aangekom kon ek nie anders as om tuis te voel nie. Nie net het die plaashuis se houtvloere, die oupa-staanklok, groot tuin, horkie-vensters, die ou plaasmotor-merc en diere my aan my eie kleintyd laat dink nie, maar ek is dadelik ge-drukkie-groet deur die oulikste dogtertjie, Nina, gevolg deur haar ma, Liesel. Die manne het in die koffie gesit en koffie drink. (Of altans Jan en ‘n vriend.) Jan Malan het op die kombuis se toonbank soet sy afgeskilde nartjie geeet.
Ek kry nie sooveel geleendheid om tyd te spandeer in ‘n familie opset nie en ek kon my verkyk na die interaksie van ouers en kinders, kinders met mekaar, ouers met mekaar oor die kinders, ouers met die kinders oor die diere ens ens ens. Hierdie 2 kinders het soveel vrymoedigheid om hulle harte te spreek, dat ek net daar en dan nog ‘n stukkie gesien het van hoe ‘n familie kan werk. Dit was great om dit te kon sien en beleef. Dankie Jan en Liesel! Ek het dit so geniet en tonne geleer!
