Kristen (see her super dooper photography work here) emailed on the Thursday, asking if i would be able to do a pregnancy shoot for her and her husband, but that it needed to be done on the Thursday or Friday, since they are leaving for Holland again the Sunday. It happened that the shoot i had the Friday got postponed so I was able to meet them in Camps Bay for their shoot! Kristen is from Canada, David from USA and they live in Holland. I guess it did not really come as a surprise when she told me that she met David while traveling. It was awesome spending the afternoon with these two (and a half.) Kristen’s awesome outfit did so much for the shoot and I loved shooting in Camps Bay, since I have never done a shoot there before. Kristen and David, enjoy the photos and please keep me up to date with the name for your baby! Blessings!
(Oh, and before I forget! It was so weird! I have never met them before, they were only still in SA 2 days after the shoot, I have never been in Riebeek Wes before, but where would i run into kristen and David on Saturday just before i start shooting a wedding? In Riebeek Wes! CrAzY! Maybe I run into you again next year, hopefully at the WPPI where we both so desperately want to go!)

Ek dink een van die lekkerste dele van my werk is om nuwe mense te leer ken. Was lekker om julle bietjie beter te leer ken! Geniet die fotos; dis beter as rooiwyn. Dit gaan nooooit sleg word nie en net meer en meer waarde vir julle kry soos die jare verby gaan!

Dit was vir my so lekker toe Vanessa ons shoot sommer kombineer met ‘n lekker platterlandse kuier! Vanessa en haar familie woon in Piketberg en sy neem self ook fotos!!! Ek het die middag deur gery, Vanessa het vir my spots gaan wys, ons het soos net ‘n vrouens kan met ‘n bakkie vas gesit, ons het heerlik foto’s geneem en dit afgesluit met ‘n plaasvars braai tjoppie. Hmmm. Dankie julle! Net blessings vir Hannatjie wat seker enige uur hier sal wees!

This must be one of my favorite families ever. They love each other soooooooo much. I’ve had the privilege to visit their home a few times and I think they must think I don’t talk at all, but when I am with them my jaw just drop and I cannot get enough of the way in which they interact. They care, they laugh and they listen.
Thank you for showing that to me! I hope you love your photos!!!

Günther se eerste verjaarsdag! As hy dalk vir julle bekend lyk, ons het nie te lank terug ‘n heerlike familie shoot met hom en sy ouers gedoen!
Ellena, het vir hom en sy speelskool maters die heerlikste partjie gereel. Diertjie cup-cakes, helium balonne, plaas diertjie, haas ore, tjippies, sappies en vele meer!
Later, toe almal lekker geeet het, is ons na ‘n tuin om bietjie die mammas met hul kinders af te neem. Dit was heeeerlik! Dankie Limmie en Ellena! Ek sien uit na die volgende fam shoot.

Wat ‘n oulike familie! Na die shoot het ons seker nog tot 10h gesit en gesels, lekker geeet en Henk het my ‘n paar cool flash tricks geleer. (Hy het vir my klas gegee by Stellenbosch academy in 2006.)

I must admit, I miss film, I miss the darkroom and I miss the scary anticipation when you are counting down the minutes before you can see if your negatives survived everything you have done to it.
Our whole first year of my photographic studies we shot on B&W film. Hours would pass in the darkroom and you would not even realize. As a class, we had some cRaZy fun times in the darkroom. In the beginning, the darkroom’s ventilation was not all that good. Or rather, there was no ventilation. (Oh boy, maybe I am addicted to the darkroom, for other reasons than I thought! :-)) I worked out that it took me an average of 2 hours 30 minutes to get a print that I was fully satisfied with. Not too dark or light, not too flat or contrasty, burned and dodged on all the right places, no marks and hair on the negatives etc etc. But the end result was just so satisfying.
When a friend of mine told me that he knows someone that wants to sell his enlarger (equipment for B&W printing) I really became interested. I do not have a darkroom, space for a darkroom or even really place to just store the enlarger, but I was so drawn to it! I started to dream about having my own darkroom again. Maybe I will even shoot the Sudan/Egypt trip on film!
I contacted the person about the enlarger and in the end we decided to do a swop. I will take some pics of him and his family in exchange for his enlarger.
So ta-daa, let me intruduce you to my newest equipment:

Ellena is mal oor fotografie en nog “maller” oor haar man en seun. Sy het besluit om ‘n kombinasie van die 2 lekkertes te reël. En dit was heerlik! Günther is presies soos wat hy op sy ouderdom moet wees. Vol lewenslus en uit om (nog) iets te ontdek wat hy nog nie weet of ervaar het nie. Dankie julle! Ek het die middag baie saam julle geniet.
