Back in 2009 i photographed Laura and Neil’s wedding. Little did i know first the Trash the Dress (Part I and Part II) and now the family photo’s would follow! Dit was weereens vir my net ‘n voorreg om tyd met die familie te spandeer! Loer HIER na die eerste shoot 2 jaar gelede. Die 3 kinders het so gegroei in die 2 jaar, dis moeilik om te glo! Die liefde, die laggies en die been-rekery tussen mekaar maak die foto’s, asook die tyd bymekaar, ekstra spesiaal. So dankie Loubser familie! Julle raak net mooier.

Chantal (as well as Glenys and Elmarie) and I know each other since primary school. We were family friends and we spend HOURS horse riding, drawing, playing with their Jack Russell-dog, finding chameleons in the garden and then of coarse fighting with our brothers. When i was 14 they moved to USA and my heart was broken! We wrote endless letters…and Chantal’s letters are the BEST. Her handwriting and words are beautiful and she writes in all directions, colours and sizes. (Chantal, i think i want a handwritten card for my birthday in January please! )
When i was in Denver for David and Emily’s wedding, the Haas family came all the way from Albuquerque (New Mexico) to Denver to visit. Jason (chantal’s husband) was so awesome, looking after the older 2 girls while we went garage-sale-shopping with the 2 babies. He also made the most amazing hoender potjie. Yes, he is American, but Chantal’s dad taught him well!

Last time i saw Daniel and Kristen in Denver, they were engaged. This time ’round they are mr and mrs and even have a little addition to the family! We started the shoot with Kristen and their son, Jaxon. Daniel joined us a bit later, after a long workday. Like ladies do, Kristen and I talked about life, fun things and less fun things. What stood out for me , was with how much love and respect she talks about Daniel. #loooooooovit#

What a privilege to photograph this beautiful family! Elmarie and I grew up together in Caledon, South Africa. While she was working in Denver (USA), she met her husband, Jordan. I photographed their USA wedding back in 2008.
When I got the enquiry for Emily and David’s wedding in Denver, (still to be blogged) Elmarie and Jordan immediately offered for me to stay at their place. I had SUCH a good time. Thank you thank you thank you Jordan and Elmarie! And little Jett…he stole my heart.

Whenever i spend time with this family, I feel revived. Their outlook on life is positive, you can see the love and respect between Rudi and Karen and they are always laughing. It’s contagious! No wonder that so many people said “KolKol Mountain Lodge” on Facebook when i asked where is a good place to go away for a weekend. KolKol is Rudi and Karen’s other baby…

Ek het so ‘n lekker middag met die Hertzog familie gehad! Dit was so ‘n mooi dag en die laaste rukkie by die see was die lig sag, die kinders lus vir speel en hulle kon net hulself wees en geniet – my favourite deel van enige shoot!

Wat ‘n lekkerrrrr manier om die nuwe seisoen se shoots mee te begin! Dit was bibberkoud die week rondom die shoot, so Nico en Elke was so oulik om Middedorp Manor te reël as plan B. Elle was vol smiles vir die foto’s, veral nadat sy ‘n kort “power nap” gehad het. Dankie Nico en Elke vir ‘n heerlike oggend saam met julle. Baie blessings vir julle as gesin!!!

It was such a treat photographing Jolandi, Pieter and little Nina. Jolandi and I went to the same preprimary school in Caledon and I still remember one specific day that we were hiding little “treasures” everywhere. Our
treasures were mostly stones and leaves, but we decided that years later we would go back and find it again. I think the memory of that fun day is the treasure now…and seeing Jolandi and Pieter with little Nina is the jackpot. She is beautiful and even though she was sooo tired during the first part of the shoot, she was still so cute and friendly!

Ross and Magriet is such a blessing. If you’ve met them, you want to know them better. They genuinely cares about the people around them and they certainly has had an impact on my life. Ross is a paster at Shofar Christian Church (Tygerberg) and Magriet is a doctor. But ultimately, they are just 2 people who really love God, making a difference in this world.

Every family has a flavour….and i like the flavour of this one! It’s incredible how gentle and with how much respect Golo and Ina talk to their children. Since this family is from Sweden, we planned a beach shoot for them. What we did not plan was HECTIC wind. When i got there i though i would have to look for another spot very quickly, but when the family arrived, they acted like this wind was 100% normal and great conditions to do the famiy shoot in. There were also tons of fish in the bay, which was a magnet to fishermen, seabirds and loads of seals. In the end of the day, the wind really did add his flavour too. Wind + the Schmidt family = grrrreat combo! Also, soon you will get to see the pictures on my blog of their intimate wedding a couple of weeks after this shoot!

It is my absolute favourite thing to build a relationship with whoever I photograph. This family i did not specifically meet through our first shoot, but our friendship certainly has grown through it!
It does not matter that the children did not really feel like the shoot the specific day. This family just always make me see a glimpse of what “family” means. Mom cannot stop talking good things about dad. Dad loves spending time with his loved family members. Together the parents do their best to raise their children in a godly way, so that they too will one day choose to have a living relationship with Jesus. The dog barks and mom will never be able to clean up or pack away everything fast enough to be one ahead of everything that is happening at once. When i look at it, I can see so much love…so much chaos…and so much character being build, all at the same time. Lovit!!!! Enjoy Hugo and Theresa. I love you as a family to bits.

Rudi and Karen are close friends of my brother and Im sure many of you have met them, since they are the owners of the absolutely awesome KolKol accommodation and Restaurant in the mountains of Botriver. (Really, do yourself a favour and have a look at what they offer.)
They are the most welcoming couple and it’s always a joy being around them. So…needless to say, i had such a good time photographing them and their “soon to be here” son, Ruan.
If you maybe wonder about “ertjie” in the title. Before anyone knew that Karen was pregnant, my brother was organizing his 30th birthday. Karen replied, saying that Rudi and herself….and Ertjiepit (little pea-pod) will be there. What she didn’t realise, was that she “replied to all.” Since they have many mutual friends, the secret was out!

Ek het n middag saam met Irise, Joseph en hulle 3 dogters spandeer. Irise was saam met my op skool in Caledon en ek kan skaars glo dat hulle al ‘n gesin van 5 is! Vandag toe ek vir haar vra hoe dit gaan met die familie, se sy hulle hou haar besig maar sy sal hulle vir niks in die wereld verruil nie.
Wow.
Dit was so ‘n kontras tuseen die rustige, slaperige, pas gebore tweeling (Sophia en Marybeth) en die woelige, lewenslustige Annabell. Maar wat ‘n fees!

1 baby = adorable
2 babies = 3x as adorable!!!
Matthew and Maxine are probably the babies with the biggest smiles that i have ever met! Their laughs are extremely contagious and I can just see them in a few years, having the time of their lives with their friends and family, laughing all the way. (And doing a bit of kattekwaad of course!)
Thanks so much to Charles, Carolyn and the twins’ day-mother for all the help to make them smile and keep their attention! It was so much fun!!!!
