NY

Last year, while in the USA, I had the privilege of visiting NY for a few days. Since it’s impossible to do everything, I asked for some “to do” advice on Facebook and a few mutual friends reminded me that Jean-Pierre moved to NY. In the end a get together worked out and we went to B&H, ate amazing bagels, got to walk and explore the streets of NY and of course…took a few images! Jean-Pierre has an aMaZing eye for detail, light and composition and even though he was the model it was so much fun to see “through his eyes” and mix that with the way I see. With no flash or tripod, we got very creative in our way of handling slow shutters etc. (:

Thank you Jean-Pierre for showing me around and for always keeping SA’s name high! You truly are one of the best en hoef verseker nie vir enige van die NY fotograwe terug te staan nie!

WARNING 1: You will probably want to go to The Old School House (Calitzdorp) after seeing this post…

WARNING 2: The image quality is not great. These are all iPhone “mik-en-druk” images I took for personal use only.

Enjoy and PLEASE let me know if you ever visit this magical place! I would love to hear about your experience. xxx

Jeremy is a friend from Denver who needed portraits for his music marketing / posters etc. We sat down and started coming up with ideas for the shoot and before long we had:

8 loaves of bread + 4 packman cookie cutters + 7 purple cabbage heads + 10x romaine lettuce + 498 pins + 324 cassette types  + 3m floral material + 1 studio + 1 model + 1 stylist + 1 photographer +  5 hours of shooting/making backdrops + lots of fun!

Thank you Jeremy for going with our crazy ideas! Hope you love your images as much as I loved taking them.

He needed some portraits and I loved being able to use a such a big variety of locations for this shoot. Thank you Ben that I could photograph you and helping me find all these awesome locations to work with! I had so much fun shooting you and I’m looking forward to see where you are heading with your talent!

Ek was in vervoering!

WHAT A TREAT!

Documenting Adéle’s parents was one life enriching experience. She emailed me from cold London and had this idea to “document” her parents during the time that she is visiting them and her dad is celebrating his 80th birthday:

Jou familie is kosbaar.

I loooooved this space since the first day I saw it! Thalia is a young, vibrant lady with many interests. As I’m typing this, she is on her way to the airport, to go to Ireland to further her knowledge in horse training, walk the Camino in Spain and explore some more of Europe. Wow! Love her adventurous heart …and her home … which is in the roof of a renovated 1912 farm barn! Enjoy xxx

I’ve been wanting to photograph a dancer for a while now and when the media team for the Awaken Woman’s Conference contacted me for a shoot I got very excited:

– I personally go to the Awaken Conference every year and every year I walk away blessed, challenged and changed. I’n excited about what God has in store for this year. The theme is Freedom.

– I got to photograph this excellent dancer, Cara Engels.

– I  got to meet the amazing woman whom I was shooting as well as get to know the media team better.

– Working with the media team was an eye opener. They were so organised and professional in the way that they planned the shoot.

Every woman is invited. To book, just click on the city where you would like to join: Western Cape, GautengNamibia

When i was studying, I loved shooting film. The anticipation and being part of the development process was magical. I would spend HOURS on end in the darkroom. Sometimes even days. On average, it took me 3.5hours until I was happy with a single print. It was so rewarding that it was worth every hour and every cent.  I’ve been missing shooting film so a while ago I asked Henk Venter if I could borrow one of his old film cameras. (If you are in the Stellenbosch area and wanting to do a short coarse in photography, he is the one to talk to!) I ended up choosing an old school K1000 Pentax with a 50mm f2 lens: manual exposure, manual focus…and since it’s little battery was dead, i had to guess the exposure for the first halve of the film –> talk about shooting excitement.

Here are some of the photos. It feels like “first fruits”, like there is still many to come. Thank you Jesus for giving me this photography talent. I love using it!

PS: My favourite shot for this film is getting it’s own post soooon…

400 iso slide film, C41 processed. ENJOY!

Ek was omtrent vir 2 weke in ‘n koma.”

Sjoeweeee!

GENIET julle kiekeis! Ons het verseker fun gehad. (:

 I looooooove these 2 people!

Jonel and i studied together and has been friends ever since. She is a true friend: constant, wise, loyal, not scared to correct me if needed and always ready to encourage! A couple of months ago she took 2 days out of her busy life to help me organise mine! She is extremely skilful organiser so we literally reshuffled everything in my office, room and unpacked boxes. To say thank you, we organised this shoot with her husband, Ferdi. Ferdi is an arty CA. Yes it’s true! He works for media 24 as a CA and has played lead roles in musicals for Gilbert&Sullivan shows at the Artscape Cape Town. Another reason why it was so much fun shooting these 2! It was as if they stepped right out of the Gatsby era. Jonel recently launched her new website 10twelve24, after working as a graphic designer for a well known company in Cape Town for the last 5 years. So excited for her!

Dankie Nellies en Fer! Julle is na aan my hart. En WAT ‘N FEEEEES OM JULLE AF TE  NEEM! Geniet julle kiekies. xxx
