Today’s post is the most difficult one I’ve ever had to write. There is no easy or less harsh way to say this, so I’ll rather say it as it is.

I lost half of Tamaryn and Nigel’s wedding’s photos.

There is so much to say about it and explain about it, but nothing will bring those images or moments back. The hardest part of it? The fact that people (the bride, groom and their families/friends) other than myself, have to deal with the consequences of my actions.

Again, I am so extremely, extremely sorry Tamaryn and Nigel…

What happened:

I lost the actual memory card on the day of the shoot. I have no idea how this could have happened and that i, even until now, hope for the card to ‘appear.’ (All my cards are marked with my name and number/email address.)

There is so much going through my head and so much more that i can write about this, but please do feel free to ask questions/comment below, because i know this is the biggest no-go as a photographer.

It was Shofar Church’s CD “pre launch” one Sunday night and i had the privilege to take some pics of it. The actual launch was a huge event, held at Hillcrest Farm.

The songs on the CD has been written by members of Shofar, so they are all fresh and new!

To get an idea of this awesome CD, click on THIS link. They are grrreat.

Where to find this CD: @Stellenbosch Shofar offices. (or sooooon in the shops like CUM Books.)

When i got the change to do this flash workshop, i knew i wanted/needed to do it. I needed to understand my flash fully, especially for reception photos. I am so happy i did the course, because I understand my flash and its settings so much better now! But…I won’t bore you with the technical details. (if you are a photographer and do not know the ins-and-outs of your flash, please contact Sybrand!)

Here are just a few from the 2-day workshop:

Social media became such a buzz word. Before i attended this 1day “social media” workshop last week, I new it was important and powerful…but I never new it was THAT powerful! In short, it is changing the way we communicate…and the way I think about my business.

After just the introduction video I already felt better informed. Do yourself a favour and go watch it HERE. With this platform to work from, i think every one at the “social media workshop” was receptive to what is to be learned around this subject. Awesome team Iaan van Niekerk and Christine (Meintjes) van Niekerk shared what they have learned through experience in their businesses. Since I’m not the person to go read up on “technical” and new computer things, it was great to cut to what is important, why it’s important and how to apply it effectively.  The workshop covered the broader idea of social media and then they discussed specifics like Facebook, Twitter and Google Analytics. And what was great, the attendees  was such a diverse group, from photographers, videographers, interior designers to people from Media 24. Basically anyone with a business!

Please inform yourself around the idea of Social Media and how it can be business-dynamite. If you would like to attend/need more info on the Social Media workshop by Iaan and Christine, please contact them directly HERE.

Geniet julle kiekies!!!!

Don’t you just love how there is always more to discover, more to overcome, more to learn!? It makes me sooooooo excited for 2011!!!

When i photographed her and her husband, Attie, i asked her if i could photograph her aprons as well, since they are such masterpieces. At the time she had 3 that was done, so here they are. Die laaste 2 jaar was af naweke soos hoendertande. As ek baie eerlik moet wees, het dit my bietjie begin vang.

Na byna ‘n jaar was hierdie naweek my eerste self-geneemde af naweek.

Nou eers bietjie meer oor my ouma.

Liefde L ***

Dit was Amanda se mail aan my. Dis vir my so ongelooflik mooi as ‘n vrou so opbouend van haar man praat:

“Ek dreig al drie jaar om couple foto’s van my en my wonderlike man Werner te laat neem, maar bly uitstel en uitstel en uitstel. NO MORE! Hy is ongelooflik, amazing en up for a challenge and a surprise!.

What an awesome privilege to be a shooter at Christine Meintjes 2nd workshop! I caught myself often forgetting to take photos, because I could not help to get lost in what she was sharing. It was very practical and “user friendly” and the decor by Leipzig Floral Design was superb! I could not stop taking photos of that! When they had their shoot, my job was to document the group (an awesome group of people by the way!!!!) but I ended up sneakingly taking some photos of the really beautiful and well styled couple as well.
Here are some of my favorite shots of from the workshop:

I was so “pleasantly overwhelmed” to hear that I received a bronze and 2 silwer awards at the sony pro photo awards. I actually did not even know until 2 days afterwards. I see myself as a farm girl that got a photography talent, and just loves shooting. A lot of you guys mail and encourage me so often. I appreciate that. Sometimes people see my work with different eyes. I know in my heart what I want to say with my photos, but am not always sure what people see in my “body of work.” Maybe that is also why I enjoy the comments so much. I think the funniest one of all time is:

‘n Moerse kompliment so by the way!” -Thanks for that!

If you are a photographer, you should definitely enter the competition next year. It was really great to go through a year’s work and recap, learn, think about it, adjust etc etc.

Also congrats to all the other photographers who won in the different catogories! Here are a few Cape Town wedding photographer winners: Christine Meintjes, Charl SmithDu Wayne DentonEric UysGreg LumleyIan MitchinsonJean-Pierre UysJules Morgan, Lauren Kriedeman and Stefan Steenkamp.

An just again, thanks to my models: ElmarieMariette and the Fourie-family!
